Bookcase Project II (La Jolla, CA)

This was the second request I received to build a custom-designed bookcase. A bit smaller, by a foot, than the first, it was a trickier project in that I had to build it to look like it was built-to-stay, but if the client moved she could take it with her. So I built it in modules. There are literally 8 screws holding the three pieces together and only one screw directly driven into a wall-stud that keeps the unit upright, which is really all that’s necessary since it’s a free-standing unit. The  color choice (red) was the client’s. She simply wanted the unit to blend into the existing accent wall. I broke up the look a bit with white base and crown trim.
